The speed and success of this FSA or ESA Data Profiling is dependent upon a few simple but critical tasks that the customer must commit to:
1. Visual SRM Server Specifications
- A dedicated server that we can install VSRM on with the following specs
- Windows 2003
- 20-30 GB of free disk space
- Attached to the production network
- MSDE/SQL should not be installed. We would prefer to install it fresh so that there are no conflicts
- If performing an Exchange scan, ESM tools can be installed on the VSRM server
- The Customer must provide a single technical contact that has proper system access:
- Physical access to the VSRM server
- Username and password for the server that will be running VSRM
- Domain Admin privileges sufficient to allow read access for the target file systems
- At least Exchange Read Only Administrator privileges for the target Exchange servers
2. Customer Environment Requirements: FSA
Must identify which file servers and file systems will be scanned
- Identify between 1 -2 TB of total storage to be scanned and reported on
- Choose “representative data” (a typical subset of the whole file system environment)
- Could also select server’s that are causing a back-up/recovery pain point
- Must have the list of mount points that will be scanned and how much data is on each
- Must have the approval/authority to mount those file systems to the scanning server
- VSRM will require a Domain Administrator account to perform reads of all scanned files
- If file systems are running as Windows Cluster, the VSRM Windows Cluster Service MUST be installed on the cluster
3. Customer Environment Requirements: ESA
Identify 1 or 2 Exchange servers to be scanned
- Supported environments are Exchange 2000 (SP3), 2003 (SP1)
- CLEARPATH must be able to install an agent, either on a machine with the Exchange Mgmt tools (ESM) already installed or install the Exchange mgmt tools onto the VSRM server.
- Typically ESM is installed on the VSRM server at the time of the assessment.
- Have an account that is part of “Local Administrator Group” or above on the server where the agent is running and has at least Exchange Read-Only Admin rights.
- The first, default mail-store must be online for the scan to complete successfully
